Harnessing Digital Health to Enhance Continuity of Care in Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients: Evidence from Universitas Padjadjaran Nursing Research
Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) remains a pressing global health issue, especially in resource-limited settings where ensuring treatment adherence and continuity of care is challenging. A systematic review led by researchers from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Padjadjaran, Qonita Nur Miladi, Tuti Pahria, S.Kp.,M.,Kes., Ph.D., and Iqbal Pramukti, S.Kep.,Ners.,M.Sc., Ph.D., comprehensively examined how digital health interventions (DHIs) impact the continuity of care among TB patients.
Published in 2025, the review analyzed randomized controlled trials involving over 17,000 patients. It revealed that DHIs such as SMS reminders, phone calls, electronic medication monitors, and mobile apps significantly improved medication adherence, treatment success, and patient satisfaction compared to standard care. These technologies also helped reduce patient time and costs, underscoring their potential to address barriers in TB management.
This study advances Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by providing robust evidence for integrating tailored digital health strategies into TB care programs, aiming to reduce morbidity and mortality worldwide.
