Understanding Bullying Experiences Among Nursing Students During Clinical Practice: A Scoping Review by Universitas Padjadjaran
Bullying in clinical settings poses a serious challenge for nursing students, impacting not only their mental and physical health but also their professional growth and patient care quality. A recent scoping review conducted led by Iyus Yosep, S.Kp., M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., and colleagues from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Padjadjaran, examines qualitative studies published over the past decade to deepen understanding of this issue.
The review analyzed 11 studies highlighting how nursing students commonly face verbal abuse, intimidation, and discrimination, often fueled by power imbalances with clinical staff and mentors. These experiences can severely hinder students’ academic performance and clinical learning quality.
Significantly, the study identified research gaps, including limited exploration of how bullying affects clinical assessments and a need for effective anti-bullying strategies. The authors recommend implementing clearer anti-bullying policies, transparent reporting mechanisms, and further research focused on the nursing education culture.
This work contributes vital insights toward improving nursing education environments, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
