Validation of Gaming Disorder Tools Among Hong Kong University Students: Unpad Researcher on Global Team
A recent international study has validated two important instruments for assessing gaming disorder, the Gaming Disorder Test (GDT) and the Gaming Disorder Scale for Adolescents (GADIS-A), among Hong Kong university students. The research team included experts from various institutions worldwide, with Iqbal Pramukti, S.Kep., Ners., MSc., Ph.D. from the Faculty of Nursing Universitas Padjadjaran actively involved as part of the team.
The study, involving 790 students (63% female, mean age 22.5 years), confirmed the reliability and validity of both instruments. The GDT demonstrated a one-factor structure, while the GADIS-A revealed a two-factor structure. Both scales showed strong factor loadings (0.70–0.86), excellent internal consistency (α/ω = 0.88–0.93), and validity across multiple psychological and behavioral measures.
This achievement reflects UNPAD’s role in advancing international research on behavioral and mental health, particularly in improving tools for assessing gaming disorder in young populations. It also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
