Improving Adolescents’ Sexual and Reproductive Health Knowledge Through Diverse Educational Interventions
Adolescents face significant risks related to sexual and reproductive health (SRH), including sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unintended pregnancies, and unsafe abortions. A recent scoping review conducted by researchers at Universitas Padjadjaran, led by Yayu Handayani Syaidar Putri and team, provides a comprehensive overview of interventions aimed at enhancing SRH knowledge and attitudes among adolescents aged 10 to 19 years.
The review analyzed 13 studies featuring various educational strategies, including smartphone-based learning, school programs, interactive games, and family-centered sessions. The duration of these interventions varied widely, ranging from brief sessions to several months of continuous engagement. These approaches not only improve adolescents’ knowledge but also positively influence their attitudes towards SRH topics, encouraging safer behaviors and informed decision-making.
Importantly, this research supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), by emphasizing the role of comprehensive, culturally sensitive sexual health education in fostering healthier youth populations.
The findings highlight the need for continued development and adaptation of educational programs tailored to diverse adolescent groups to ensure accessibility and effectiveness across different contexts.
