Universitas Padjadjaran Explores Factors Influencing Psychological Well-Being Among Children with Cancer

Cancer diagnosis and treatment significantly affect the psychological well-being (PWB) of children under 18 years old, impacting their emotional, social, and cognitive functioning. A scoping review by researchers from Universitas Padjadjaran, led by Fania Putri Alya, analyzed 12 studies to identify key factors associated with the psychological health of pediatric cancer patients. The review categorized these factors into four groups: sociodemographic (age), individual psychological function, health-related (age at diagnosis), and environmental factors (parental attachment and school status).

Common psychological challenges faced by children with cancer include anxiety, depression, distress, and lowered self-esteem. Understanding these predictors helps healthcare providers tailor supportive interventions to improve the mental health outcomes for these vulnerable children during and after treatment.

This research supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by emphasizing the importance of holistic care that includes psychological support for pediatric cancer patients.
