Universitas Padjadjaran Faculty of Nursing Champion Support for Adolescents Facing Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying continues to impact adolescents worldwide, leading to serious psychological consequences such as anxiety, low self-esteem, and depression. Mental health nurses are pivotal in delivering care that addresses these complex challenges. A qualitative study by researchers at Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Nursing led by Iyus Yosep,S.Kp.,M.Si.,M.Sc.Ph.D., and colleagues, examined the experiences of mental health nurses providing interventions to adolescent victims of cyberbullying in West Java, Indonesia.
Through interviews with 12 nurses working in child and adolescent psychiatric rehabilitation units, the study revealed five core themes: the types of bullying adolescents face, influencing factors on the impact of cyberbullying, challenges nurses encounter, specific nursing interventions employed, and coping strategies nurses develop to manage these cases. Importantly, the findings emphasize the need for individualized, holistic nursing care that includes family and community involvement to foster resilience and positive coping in affected youth.
This work supports Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by enhancing mental health care provision for adolescents and advocating for improved training and healthcare policies. The study underscores the essential role of mental health nurses in addressing the growing problem of cyberbullying and promoting adolescent mental wellness in Indonesia.
