The Role of Family, Media, and Sexual Behaviour in Shaping Adolescents’ Future Readiness in Indonesia
A recent study led by Rahmadewi from the National Research and Innovation Agency, and colleagues from Universitas Padjadjaran and Politeknik Negeri Subang explores important factors influencing adolescents’ readiness for a healthy and successful future in Indonesia. Drawing on comprehensive data from the 2019 Program Performance and Accountability Survey across 34 provinces, the research focuses on unmarried youth aged 10 to 24.
The findings highlight that individual characteristics such as age, gender, education, and adolescent reproductive health knowledge significantly affect future readiness. Family factors, especially parental exposure to reproductive health information and the implementation of family roles, emerged as key influences. Environmental factors, including the use of mass media as a source of reproductive health and population information, also play a meaningful role. Notably, the active involvement of family roles stood out as the most dominant factor in shaping adolescents’ preparedness.
This study emphasize the vital importance of family engagement and the effective dissemination of health information through media, aligning closely with Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 4, which promote health, well-being, and quality education for all.
