New Research from Universitas Padjadjaran: Strategies to Improve Maternity Care in Indonesia
Maternal health remains a pressing challenge in Indonesia, with maternal mortality rates still high despite ongoing efforts. A recent study led by researchers from Universitas Padjadjaran, led by Sidik Maulana with colleagues from Universitas Muhammadiyah Aceh, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Universitas Indonesia, and Monash University, has provided fresh insights by analyzing a decade’s worth of global and national research trends on primary maternity care. Using advanced bibliometric techniques and assisted by ChatGPT-4.0, the team identified critical topics like midwifery roles, pandemic resilience, and telemedicine as pivotal areas for improvement.
Their findings highlight that while Indonesia has many external opportunities, such as technological advancements and supportive policies, the country must strengthen its internal capabilities, especially human resources and healthcare infrastructure, to fully capitalize on these opportunities. Strengthening these areas is essential to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and improve health outcomes nationwide.
This research supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages.
