Faculty of Nursing UNPAD Leads ASEAN Review on Factors Shaping Healthy Behaviors for NCD Prevention
A recent scoping review, published in the Journal of Multidisciplinary Healthcare, was led by Nursiswati, S.Kp, M.Kep.,Sp.KMB., from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Padjadjaran in collaboration with Candradewini, S.IP., M.Si. (Faculty of Social and Political Science UNPAD), Dr. Deasy Silvya Sari, S.IP., M.Si., (Faculty of Social and Political Science UNPAD), Suci Ayu Kurniasih (Faculty of Nursing UNPAD), and Prof. Kusman Ibrahim,S.Kp.,MNS.,Ph.D. (Faculty of Nursing UNPAD). The research mapped the factors influencing healthy behaviors for preventing and managing NCDs among university students in ASEAN countries.
Following the Arksey and O’Malley Scoping Review Framework and using the PCC (Population–Concept–Context) method, the authors screened 1,166 articles published between 2020 and 2024, narrowing the selection to 7 studies involving 71,923 participants. The results identified two main categories of influencing factors:
Internal factors: dietary habits, sleep quality, BMI, and mental well-being.
External factors: student knowledge and perceptions, and the degree of Health University Framework (HUF) implementation.
The review also highlighted a significant link between healthy behavior, psychological health, and cardiovascular disease risk reduction. These findings reinforce the importance of implementing comprehensive, campus-wide health promotion initiatives, particularly through the ASEAN University Network-Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN) HUF framework.
By contributing to this research, the Faculty of Nursing UNPAD demonstrates leadership in advancing preventive health strategies aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being, ensuring young adults adopt healthier lifestyles that can reduce the long-term burden of NCDs.
