Digital-Based Interventions Show Promise in Reducing Suicide Risk Among Adults: A Scoping Review by UNPAD Researchers
Suicide remains a critical global public health challenge, with approximately one million deaths annually worldwide. Adults facing complex psychological, social, and economic stressors are particularly vulnerable to suicidal behavior.
A team from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Padjadjaran, led by Iyus Yosep, S.Kp., M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., and colleagues, conducted a scoping review of digital interventions aimed at reducing suicide risk among adults. The review synthesized evidence from nine studies published in the last decade, including randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental designs.
Their findings highlight various digital modalities, such as smartphone applications, online learning modules, and game-based interventions, which show potential in mitigating suicidal behavior by tailoring support to individual needs and digital literacy levels.
This study underscores the importance of integrating digital tools within mental health services and public health policies, emphasizing collaborative stakeholder involvement in suicide prevention efforts. The research aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by advancing innovative, accessible strategies for mental health promotion.
