Unpad Research Reveals: Remote Mindfulness Can Help Ease Physical Symptoms in Cancer Survivors
A new systematic review and meta-analysis from Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Nursing led by Maria Komariah, S.Kp.,M.Kes., Ph.D.,in collaboration with University of Indonesia, Airlangga University , International Islamic University Malaysia, explores the effectiveness of remote-based mindfulness interventions in managing physical symptoms often experienced by cancer survivors, such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, and limited physical function.
Analyzing 13 high-quality studies, researchers found that remote mindfulness significantly reduced fatigue, improved sleep, and enhanced physical functioning. While improvements were especially clear compared to patients’ conditions before the intervention, sleep quality also improved when compared to usual care.
Interestingly, pain reduction did not show significant results, highlighting the need for further targeted interventions in this area.
This study strengthens the potential of digital health in oncology and aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting accessible, evidence-based psychological support for cancer survivors, anytime, anywhere.
