Post-Sympathectomy Care in Managing Incessant Ventricular Tachycardia: Insights from a Case Study
Led by Dewi Ikawati, this case study explores nursing management following sympathectomy in a patient suffering from incessant ventricular tachycardia (VT), a challenging cardiac arrhythmia unresponsive to medication. Sympathectomy, involving interruption of sympathetic nerve signals, stands as a last-resort surgical intervention.
The study highlights comprehensive post-operative nursing care, focusing on cardiac and airway management, activity therapy, and innovative tele-nursing follow-up via video calls. Multidisciplinary collaboration with anesthesiologists and cardiologists was pivotal in ensuring successful recovery. The patient was discharged just three days after surgery without respiratory or cardiac complaints, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated nursing interventions.
This research contributes to improving the quality of care for complex cardiac patients and aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting advanced, patient-centered nursing practices.
