Embracing Innovation Framework and Transformative Paradigm: Practical Application in the Ultralight Project
Higher education plays a vital role as a center of research and innovation, especially in the era of transformative learning. Led by Restuning Widiasih.,S.Kp.,M.Kep.,Sp.Mat., Ph.D. and colleagues from Universitas Padjadjaran and the University of Newcastle, Australia, present the M-Motion framework as a comprehensive guide for nursing innovation, particularly in maternity care. This framework consists of three sequential stages: pre-innovation (planning and preparation), innovation (implementation), and post-innovation (evaluation and sustainability).
The Ultralight Project exemplifies the practical application of this framework by integrating self-monitoring data from pregnant women collected via the DetectMe device into an online health system. This integration facilitates real-time monitoring of maternal and fetal health, enabling early identification of complications and prompt clinical response. Such innovation is crucial to accelerate the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality rates in Indonesia.
By applying the M-Motion framework, this study demonstrates how nursing research can translate into meaningful health innovations with measurable population health impacts. This contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), supporting safer pregnancies and healthier outcomes for mothers and babies.
The study offers a valuable model for future nursing innovations and underscores the important role of higher education institutions in fostering research that is both innovative and transformative.
