Faculty of Nursing Universitas Padjadjaran Investigates Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Garut, Indonesia
Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant public health challenge, impacting millions globally, including in Indonesia. A recent cross-sectional study led by Desy Indra Yani, S.Kep.,Ners.,MNS., and colleagues from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Padjadjaran, explores the differences in quality of life (QoL) between patients with new and recurrent pulmonary TB in Garut, West Java.
Utilizing the WHOQOL assessment tool, this study involved 114 patients and revealed that individuals with recurrent pulmonary TB scored significantly higher in the psychological domain of quality of life compared to new patients. This finding suggests that new TB patients may face a heavier psychological burden during treatment, emphasizing the critical need for targeted mental health support to improve their overall well-being and treatment outcomes.
This research also contributes to advancing Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting comprehensive care strategies to enhance patient health and quality of life.
