Universitas Padjadjaran Research Highlights Cold Compress Therapy to Prevent Hematoma and Reduce Pain After Cardiac Catheterization
Cardiac catheterization is a vital procedure for diagnosing and treating heart conditions, but it often comes with complications such as hematoma and pain, which can prolong hospital stays and increase costs. A recent systematic review led by Firman Sugiharto and team from Universitas Padjadjaran examined the effectiveness of cold compress therapy in preventing these common post-procedure issues.
By reviewing twelve high-quality studies, the research found that applying cold compresses for 15 to 20 minutes can significantly reduce the risk of hematomas and alleviate pain for patients recovering from cardiac catheterization. This non-invasive, cost-effective intervention offers a practical addition to nursing care protocols, potentially improving patient comfort and outcomes.
This evidence supports integrating cold compress therapy into post-cardiac catheterization care, emphasizing the role of nurses and healthcare providers in implementing simple yet impactful strategies.
The study aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, promoting good health and well-being by enhancing recovery processes and reducing complications.
