New Insights on Povidone-Iodine’s Role in Modern Wound Care
Universitas Padjadjaran is excited to share groundbreaking findings from a comprehensive scoping review that examines the effectiveness of povidone-iodine (PV-I) in wound infection prevention and healing. This collaborative study, led by Hasniatisari Harun, S.Kep.,Ners.,M.Kep., with partners from Universitas Aisyiyah Bandung and Christian Service University College Ghana, analyzed 19 key research articles to compare PV-I with other advanced wound care agents.
The research highlights that while PV-I remains widely used for its antimicrobial properties, alternatives like silver dressings and hyaluronic acid have shown promising results in accelerating wound healing and reducing surgical site infections. These findings open new avenues for optimizing wound care protocols to improve patient outcomes.
This important work supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by enhancing evidence-based clinical practices that reduce infection risks and promote recovery.
