Researchers at Universitas Padjadjaran investigated the impact of an integrated English hybrid learning program on undergraduate nursing students’ communication competence and apprehension.
Led by Prof. Hartiah Haroen, S.Kp.,MNg.,M.Kes, Ph.D. and colleagues from Universitas Padjadjaran, this quasi-experimental study involved 173 students who engaged in a blended learning approach combining lectures, tutorials, and project-based activities delivered via LiVE Unpad, WhatsApp, and Zoom platforms. Results demonstrated statistically significant improvements in students’ self-perceived communication competence alongside reductions in communication apprehension (p < 0.001).
The findings highlight that hybrid English learning tailored to nursing purposes not only enhances students’ language confidence but also addresses anxiety associated with professional communication. The study further emphasizes the importance of adapting these learning methods across nursing education levels to maximize effectiveness.
This research advances Sustainable Development Goal 4 by promoting inclusive, quality education through innovative instructional strategies that prepare nursing students for effective international communication.
