Boosting Psychological Well-being in Indonesian Women with Breast Cancer Through Religious-Based Caring Programs
Breast cancer affects not only the body but also deeply impacts mental health, especially within cultural contexts where spirituality plays a vital role in healing. A recent collaborative study led by Maria Komariah, S.Kp.,M.Kes., Ph.D. from Universitas Padjadjaran, in partnership with Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Indonesia, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (India), and An-Najah National University (Palestine), explores how integrating religious-based caring programs into nursing care can significantly improve psychological well-being for Indonesian women undergoing chemotherapy.
The quasi-experimental study conducted in Bandung demonstrated that participants who received spiritual care alongside medical treatment showed marked improvements in mental resilience, emotional stability, and overall well-being. This holistic approach to cancer care emphasizes the need to treat both the mind and body, offering a powerful strategy to support recovery and enhance quality of life.
This research supports Sustainable Development Goal 3, focusing on good health and well-being, by providing evidence-based insights into culturally sensitive nursing practices that can be scaled across Indonesia.
