Family’s Role in Enhancing Burn Recovery Outcomes
A multidisciplinary research team from Universitas Padjadjaran, led by Deni Alia Yadi and colleagues from Bandung Institute of Technology, Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung, and Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung, conducted a literature review to explore the vital role of family support in improving burn recovery outcomes. Their study found that emotional and social support from family members can accelerate rehabilitation and healing, reduce the risk of complications and infections, and help patients adhere to their treatment plans.
Besides physical effects such as pain, scarring, and functional limitations, burn patients often face serious psychological challenges, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety. Families of burn survivors also carry heavy emotional, psychological, and financial burdens during the long and demanding recovery process.
This research highlights the importance of involving family as an integral part of comprehensive burn management strategies. Such an approach aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), which promotes holistic and inclusive healthcare services to improve patients’ quality of life.
