Faculty of Nursing Universitas Padjadjaran Research Reviews Nursing Interventions to Enhance Quality of Life for Parents of Children with Thalassemia Major

A scoping review led by Ai Mardhiyah, S.Kp.,M.Kes, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Padjadjaran, examined effective nursing interventions to improve the quality of life for parents caring for children with thalassemia major.

The review analyzed nine studies (2015–2024) that addressed the emotional, social, and economic challenges faced by parents. Effective interventions included positive thinking therapy, family empowerment, counseling, and educational programs, all of which improved parental coping skills, emotional well-being, and knowledge about managing thalassemia care.

The findings emphasize that holistic nursing approaches and continuous healthcare support are key to sustaining parental resilience and enhancing their overall quality of life. This research aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education, reflecting the role of healthcare education in strengthening family-centered care.
