Unpad & UI Nursing Researchers Advance Oral Care to Manage Mucositis in Pediatric Cancer Patients
An updated systematic review led by Ikeu Nurhidayah from Universitas Padjadjaran, in collaboration with Colleagues from Universitas Indonesia, investigates the effectiveness of oral care interventions in managing mucositis among pediatric cancer patients.
To find practical solutions, Anisa Ayu Pratiwi from Universitas Padjadjaran and colleagues from Universitas Indonesia conducted a systematic review registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023456278). Their findings show that natural interventions such as honey, aloe vera, olive oil, and enzyme toothpaste significantly helped reduce the severity of mucositis and promoted faster recovery. These therapies were easy to administer and well-tolerated by pediatric patients.
By highlighting effective, low-cost interventions, this research advances the goals of SDG 3 and SDG 10, especially in improving equitable access to child-centered care in oncology settings with limited medical resources.
