Strengthening Disaster Preparedness Among West Java High School Students: Insights from Universitas Padjadjaran Research<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n West Java, a region frequently affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, and volcanic eruptions, faces ongoing challenges in disaster risk management. Recognizing the vital role of schools in preparing youth, researchers Cecep Eli Kosasih, S.Kp.,MNS, Ph.D., Prof. Yanny Trisyani, SKp, MN., Ph.D., Tuti Pahria, S.Kp.,M.,Kes., Ph.D., Dr. Tetti Solehati, S.Kp.,M.Kep., from Universitas Padjadjaran, in collaboration with Praneed Songwathana from Prince of Songkla University, conducted a quantitative study to assess disaster preparedness among high school students in West Java.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The study involved 496 students from five high schools across Bandung City, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and Sumedang Regency. Using a disaster preparedness questionnaire based on LIPI-UNESCO 2006 guidelines, the research found that while 62.3% of students were categorized as \u201cready,\u201d significant gaps remain, especially in disaster warnings and resource mobilization. Grade 11 and 12 students demonstrated higher preparedness levels compared to grade 10, with no significant differences observed by gender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These findings emphasize the need for enhanced disaster education through tailored training programs, the use of innovative technologies, and strong collaboration with disaster management agencies to ensure youth are fully equipped to respond effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This study contributes directly to advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 (Quality Education) by promoting disaster awareness and education, and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by strengthening community resilience against natural disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
