Delayed extubation, when patients need longer breathing support after cardiac surgery, is linked to higher risks and longer ICU stays.

A recent review by Universitas Padjadjaran researchers by Regina Indah Kumalasari and colleagues found factors behind this delay: older age (\u2265 60), lower heart function (EF < 50%), long surgery times (\u2265 7 hours), use of medical devices like IABP, sedatives, and high postoperative BNP levels.

Main causes include unstable blood pressure needing more medication, decreased consciousness, and bleeding after surgery. Knowing these factors helps doctors improve patient care, shorten ICU stays, and support faster recovery.

This work supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by enhancing cardiac critical care.
